The Approach

Personal care products are applied directly to the skin and hair and are designed to improve how a person looks and feels. For these reasons, providing consumers with safe products is a high priority at P&G Beauty.

In the safety assessment of a product, each ingredient goes through an ingredient risk assessment. In many cases where there is ample safety data available on an ingredient, the process is very quick. In cases where there is a brand new ingredient in a formula or a new use for a known ingredient, then a more in-depth safety evaluation is required. Here P&G provides information on how an in-depth safety evaluation is done. Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) of an ingredient is a tiered process used to ensure the safety of products and can take months or years to complete. P&G Beauty's approach is consistent with the highest industry standards.

It may not be immediately evident, but P&G Beauty does communicate outcomes of this risk assessment process to the consumer. This is done by providing specific information on the label of each product including directions for use, ingredient lists and warning labels, if necessary.

P&G also takes steps to ensure the accuracy of the risk assessment. This is done by actively monitoring consumer experience with our products via post marketing surveillance and 1-800 numbers.
