Safety Organization

More than 1000 Procter & Gamble employees globally, work full time to ensure the safety and regulatory compliance of our products and operations, including more than 500 working directly on product safety.   They work in Central Product Safety, External Relations, global business unit Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs, and manufacturing-related Health, Safety and the Environment.

Global Business Unit Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs (PS&RA)

The Global Business Units (GBU) are organized around a particular part of the business (i.e. Beauty, Household Care, Health & Well Being). Scientists and regulatory experts in the business units concentrate on safety and regulatory compliance for that business unit and for their respective geographical areas. All products must be approved by the GBU PS&RA, via a strict internal regulatory and safety clearance process, before they reach the market. They are also in charge of post-market consumer surveillance.

Technical External Relations (TER)

Technical External Relations monitors the scientific and regulatory world outside of P&G Beauty and how it may affect the business in broad strokes, providing necessary feedback to the Central Product Safety Group and the business units. TER represents the company's interests in external scientific task forces, gives presentations, forms alliances with other organizations and ensures that the right people are involved in projects and decision-making. In a sense, the people in External Relations are the ambassadors of the company.

Central Product Safety (CPS)

Before a product is considered for marketing, it is fully assessed to meet our high standards for human and environmental safety.  Our human and environmental safety organization (Central Product Safety) employs hundreds of world-leading scientists, toxicologists and environmental experts.  These experts apply their unique training to assess all available safety information well before a product is considered for market.  They also have the final word when it comes to decisions on product and environmental safety.

Health, Safety and the Environment (HS&E)

The people in HS&E focus on manufacturing operations, especially employee safety, site environmental protection, waste management and regulatory compliance for the plants. They address any questions or concerns that arise about the company's operations with local communities as well as national or regional stakeholders.
