Malassezia

A genus of opportunistic yeasts containing both lipophilic and lipid-dependent yeasts, some of which belong to the normal cutaneous microflora. Originally named Malassezia by Malassez in 1898, it was renamed Pityrosporum during the second half of the 20^th century.  Pityrosporum was reclassified to multiple Malassezia species in 1996.
