Malassezia







A genus of opportunistic yeasts containing both lipophilic and lipid-dependent yeasts, some of which belong to the normal cutaneous microflora. Originally named Malassezia by Malassez in 1898, it was renamed Pityrosporum during the second half of the 20th century.  Pityrosporum was reclassified to multiple Malassezia species in 1996.
